Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning Majors Computer Requirements

Hardware Specs

In addition to the computer requirements for all School of Architecture students, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning have some additional required specifications for the laptop computer to meet the need of the core courses:

CPU: Intel i7/AMD Ryzen5 or better processor recommended

RAM: 16GB minimum and 32GB recommended

Graphics: Discrete (rather than integrated) graphic card capable of displaying resolutions at
1920×1080 recommended. If you wish to run Lumion from your laptop, we recommend a graphics
card scoring at least a G3DMark of 10,000 or higher at least 6GB of memory. Specs for Lumion
based computers.

Storage: 512 GB or larger, SSD recommended

Other Considerations

  • MacOS laptops are NOT recommended. Many software packages used in Landscape and
    Urban Planning industry are not compatible with MacOS system.
  • Chromebooks and similar types of computers are NOT suitable for design purposes.
  • Laptops with very small display screens may be difficult to navigate during classroom
    exercises.
