The Department of Construction Science at Texas A&M has led the way in excellent construction higher education since 1946. We are the largest construction education program in the nation with around 1,100 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students.
Our programs are the premiere versions of applied construction degrees. Our interdisciplinary approach integrates principles of architecture, technology, engineering, business and project management. We prepare students to get out from behind their desks and work with people on site to make a project successful.

Construction science is housed in Francis Hall in College Station, Texas, and in the Higher Education Center in McAllen, Texas.

A Leadership Laboratory
Our mandatory internship program gives students a chance to interview with and work for construction firms. Both our students and the firms involved benefit from these exchanges. After graduation, many of our students go to work with the firms they interned with.

Industry Involvement
Involvement from our professional advisory boards ensures we are preparing our students for careers after graduation. Over 200 construction firms participate in this program. These firms build relationships with our students at career fairs, award ceremonies and other department activities.

Our undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. programs are all STEM-coded 15.1001 by the Department of Homeland Security.

Research
Our multidisciplinary research portfolio tackles real-world problems through convergent research and scholarly activity. We routinely secure the most federal grants for construction science of any university in the country. In 2019 alone, our faculty secured an enviable $3.51 million in research funding from over 40 external grants.
Accredited Programs
Both our graduate and undergraduate programs were among the first in the nation to be accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). As part of our accreditation and as part of our commitment to transparency, we provide extensive information about our programs to the general public.

While our program is large, our department is very close-knit. Faculty members advise student professional organizations and coach student competition teams. Staff support student success academically and personally. Relationships formed in our program last years after graduation.
Financial Support
The Department of Construction Science is very fortunate to have numerous scholarships available for its students. Each academic year, our department awards about 225 scholarships worth over $400,000. Donors make these scholarships possible. Through their generosity, the number of construction science endowed scholarships has nearly tripled in the last ten years.
