Semester Study Abroad in the United Kingdom

Our study abroad programs allow you to experience life, culture and the construction industry in the United Kingdom. Led by construction science faculty, the programs are open to all upper-level construction science students. This program takes place during the spring semester.

Construction Science – UK – Spring

Semester Study Abroad

While abroad, students complete 17-credit hours of coursework, receive internship experience and fulfill the school’s semester away requirement — all while experiencing the culture of Western Europe first-hand.

The program is based in London to satisfy the UK visa and internship requirements. However, you’ll travel as a group to multiple places around Great Britain and have opportunities for individual travel to other places in the UK.

Spring Curriculum

All students are required to take a minimum of 12 credit hours in spring 2021 to participate in this program. Students should meet with their academic advisors to ensure they meet eligibility requirements and that the courses are degree applicable. Spring semester courses in the UK will include:

  • COSC 463 — Introduction to Construction Law | 3 credits
  • COSC 465 — Advanced Topics in Construction Law | 3 credits
  • COSC 468 — Risk Management in the Built Environment | 3 credits
  • COSC 381 — Professional Ethics in the Construction Industry | 3 credits

  • COSC 485 — Directed Studies | 1–6 credits
  • CARC 485 — Directed Studies | 1–6 credits

What are the eligibility requirements?
  • Open to construction science majors who are admitted into upper-level construction science courses at the time of departure 
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application and until program start
  • Good standing with Texas A&M University   
  • Must attend all program meetings

Does this satisfy the School of Architecture’s semester away requirement?

Yes.

How long is the program?

The study abroad program in the UK is longer than a regular A&M spring semester, spanning 19 weeks.

Will this delay my degree plan?

No. The program allows you to complete the same coursework offered at the Texas A&M campus. Many of our students actually graduate a semester early by taking advantage of the study abroad program.

How much does it cost?

What will I do during my study abroad semester?

The program is centered on living in London. You’ll complete construction science courses and an internship, as well as visit notable sites throughout the United Kingdom during your stay. Past trips to cultural sites have included Stonehenge, Bath, Canterbury and Dover.

Are there COVID-19 traveling restrictions?

As of October 29, there are delays in passport processing due to COVID-19. Students should apply for their passports at least three months in advance to allow for adequate processing time.
