Colonias Program collaboration helps provide healthcare in Corpus Christi region
Residents of underserved areas in the Corpus Christi region received health care in 2021 in an ongoing collaboration between the College of Architecture’s Colonias Program and the U.S. military.
Various screenings and some dental and optometry work were performed by military medical personnel, as well as nursing, pharmacy and social work students from various Texas A&M University System campuses.
The collaboration is an ideal training and learning opportunity for the military as well as Texas A&M System students.
The partnership, which also includes local governments and school districts, also provided veterinary services and infrastructure improvements to the region.
Similar opportunities are planned in three South Texas counties — Nueces, Webb, and Maverick — in 2021.
